【第126回】“The Inventurers (third edition)”, Janet Hagberg / Richard Leider

This is NOT a book which we only to read, but a workbook which we have discussion through. It is useful for us to make a team or partnership whose purpose is to read this book and complete all discussion themes.

Actually I made team with my old friend and held some workshops by ourselves. Before we have a meeting, we read and answered all the questions in some chapters.

We held our own workshop at some caffe and restaurants having hot discussion. Though we tend to be afraid of talking about our topic about own career and life, we didn’t care about it in these workshops. When we don’t want to talk it loud, we used English! Because this book was written in English and we answered in English too, it was natural for us to have conversation in English.

There are many exciting and interesting questions in this book. Why don’t you asking and answering yourself at first, and have discussion with your friends or life partners. For me, the most impressive question was below;

“What was the most important question you were asking yourself ten years ago and what is the most important question you are asking yourself now?”

This question made me reflect my experiences deeply, and also contemplate and imagine the future.

Except for questions, there are three topics which I was really interested in.

First topic is about “inside out”. According to authors, “The irony of the situation is that until you look within and develop your own personal lifestyle, you won’t be the kind of person who would attract the kind of person you want anyway. It’s all got to start from the inside out.”  So, first of all, if we want to be an inventurer, the people who seek to develop ourselves with fulfillment, we have to develop our internal factors, not focusing on the external ones. After doing it, our external factors will be changed dramatically.

Second topic is about learning style. Authors say that “Flexibility, or the ability to use many styles of learning, depending on the situation, is a goal to strive for.” The more flexible learning style we have, the more career and life options we can choose. So, “knowing your most preferred style could make the process more enjoyable and productive.”

Third one is drawing exercise, yes, in this book, we have to draw a picture! It is an important assignment to do with using our right brain. For a future reader, I don’t want to reveal the secret of this assignment, but it made me exciting after drawing a picture, even though I had hesitated to draw a picture!
