In this book, Mr. Pink says there are three types of work motivation, Motivation 1.0, Motivation 2.0, and Motivation 3.0.
Motivation 1.0 is for our survival. When we want to have a meal, we will think about how to get some food and will do our best to attain it.
Motivation 2.0 is for response to our environment. This way of thinking is to seek reward and avoid punishment.
Motivation 1.0 and Motivation 2.0 are still important for us. But their importance is falling down. In the developed countries, there are so many foods. And if work is inherently enjoyable for someone, the external inducements at the heart of Motivation 2.0 become less necessary for him.
Then Motivation 3.0 becomes more important. Motivation 3.0 is not based on external motivator, and it is based on internal motivator. Mr. Pink suggests that we should focus on our internal motivator, and should make efforts to improve our work more interesting by ourselves.
And finally, Mr. Pink summarizes his suggestion. His way of summarizing is very unique, because he makes three summaries. First one is for tweet on twitter, second one is for cocktail party talk, and the last one is longer than other two versions, he summarize his suggestion chapter by chapter. Of course these three summaries help us to understand his suggestion, but they also make us to understand how to edit.
